Whew……breathe in, breathe out……….this week on eBay has been a little bit hectic……….I feel like I’ve run a marathon.

eBay offered FREE fixed price listings, so I was able to get 60 new items listed that weekend and then I did another 35 through out the week for a total of 95 new listings this week!  (and no, I didn’t have the week off, I still taught 54 piano lessons.)  I’m not really sure how I did this other than the fact that I started on Thursday night after my last lesson, took pictures and got to work.  I worked all day Friday on it, and did a few more over the weekend.  I’m working on listing some books right now, so that helps it go fast too.

On the positive side, of all of that listing is a full bin of packages almost every day of the week for my mailcarrier :)

I also scored two sales on Bonanza this week and One on Addoway!  Don’t ask me why, I make hundreds of sales on eBay, but I get SUPER excited about a sale from another site, it’s like a pleasant surprise :)

A Day In My Life As An Online Seller

It’s tough for me to do a “day in the life” post.  I run two businesses–I teach 54 piano students and two music classes  three and a half days a week.  I spend Sundays working at church and working on church music.  My other two and a half days a week, I’m a full time mom and online seller.

On the days I teach, I run both businesses, checking my eBay sales and messages between lessons and shipping out items when I get home in the evening.  I generally  list on days that I don’t teach.

Here’s what a typical Wednesday looks like for me:

7:10 a.m.  Up and at ‘em :)

7:30 a.m. Wake my little one up and get her going.

8:00 a.m. Out the door to drop her at school and get myself to the school I teach at.

8:30 a.m Kick off my first lesson for the day.  Teach at school, one student every half hour until 4:05 p.m. (with a 35 minute lunch break)

5:00-6:00 Stop off for the last two lessons of the day.

6:15 p.m.  Grab some dinner at a drive thru.

6:45 p.m. Arrive at church for Bible study in time to grab a drink, use the restroom and head to the piano.

8:30 p.m.  Leave church and chat on the way home with my daughter about her day.

8:45 p.m. Arrive home, check the mail, unload the car.

9:00 p.m. Tuck my daughter into bed. Help her get out clothes and shoes for the morning.

9:15 p.m. Pack lunches  and lay out clothes for the morning.

9:30 p.m. Check online sales for the day, round up items to ship, head to the office to start shipping

10:30 p.m.  Head back down stairs, put packages in the mail bin, put laundry and dishes away.

11:00 p.m. Take a shower, brush my teeth, wash my face

11:30 p.m.  Answer emails from parents and customers.

12:00 a.m.  Make sure coffee is ready for the morning :) ……….Lights out.

This Week on eBay

This week on eBay, and selling online in general has been a lot of fun!

I made sales on Amazon, Addoway, AND Bonanza this week…….I think that’s a first for me to make a sale on each venue in the same week!  It was really exciting for me, to see the traffic on the other sites increase.

The last few weeks, eBay has been offering free auction listings for store owners. I decided to take advantage of them and do a little bit of spring cleaning in my store.  I’ve been able to get rid of a few things that have been hanging around and make a little bit of profit off of them.  Nothing major as far as making huge profits, but it’s been fun watching them get bids and to get rid of some of my inventory.  I don’t do auctions very often, but I figured for free, it was worth a try.

I’ve also been spending some time trying to promote my existing listings more, I need to spend some time tweeting them, but the thought of tweeting over 1,000 listings is a little daunting, so maybe I’ll start with my most recently listed items.

Surprisingly, I’ve been doing well at keeping up with my new 1-day handling time policy, with 97% of my items being shipped out this month within my stated handling time.

Hope you’re having a great week online!

Promoting Your Online Listings

I am a firm believer in listing.  I don’t let things sitting around that need to be listed while I shop for more!

If it’s not listed, it can’t sell.

You have money tied up in this inventory and it’s not even possible for it to sell because it’s not listed.

I actually love listing especially now that I have my lap top.

I can list while watching a movie or list on the back deck, it’s a lot more fun and convenient.

Even though I still believe that listing is key to making sales, I also think that once in awhile, you have to take some time off from listing and work on promoting what you already have listed.

One thing that I like to do is what I call “cross promote” my items.

That means that I list everything to eBay, and then I import it all to addoway and bonanza.  (There are other sites you can import to as well.)   When I decided to start selling on amazon, the first place I went to for inventory was my eBay inventory.

Instead of spending money on more inventory  just for Amazon, I took items that I have in my eBay store that can be listed on Amazon and listed them.  This way, my items are available to more than one market and I can manage it all at the same time rather than having to maintain separate inventory for each selling venue.

This month, I had 6 eBay items that were “cross promoted” to other venues sell between the three other sites I have my items listed on.  That’s nothing HUGE, but it’s better than nothing, and sometimes items that are having a difficult time selling on eBay will sell on another site.

Another thing I like about the other three sites I’m cross promoting to is the fact that there’s no listing fees, only fees for the item when it sells, which makes having a large inventory on several sites affordable.

I’d love to hear from other sellers who have their items on Addoway and bonanza, and I’d love to hear about other sites you like to have your items on and how they’re doing.

This Week on eBay

What a week it’s been!

As most online sellers know, this time of year tends to be slow, but I set a goal for this month.

Goal: I will make enough selling online this month to  pay my regular bills but I also need to make enough to cover my car insurance payment that’s due this month ( 6 months at a time.)

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and my mind went to work OVERTIME to come up with a way to make it possible.  I’ve been a listing machine this last week!  Not only did I list nearly 50 items over the weekend (and still had plenty of time to have fun) but I’m also trying to list 4-5 items per day each day in the evening after my shipping is done.

So far, so good!

I’m still working on cleaning things out for my upcoming yard sale, so I found quite a bit to put in my eBay pile this week from around the house and some of it has already sold.  I’ve also moved a few things to auction this week in an attempt to draw some extra attention to my store and hopefully get a few extra items sold.

I’ve had a sale on addoway and a sale on Bonanza this week, which is always encouraging :)

At the end of last week, I revised all of my listings in bulk to comply with the Spring Seller update from eBay, so I now offer a 1 day handling time.

I used to have a 2 day handling time, so the change isn’t a HUGE difference, but I’m still trying to get used to the thought that I have to ship EVERY single day.  In the past, I didn’t ship on Wednesday nights when I got home, but I’ll have to see how I can work that into my schedule.
